- Carries out programs to promote the employment of persons with disabilities in the private sector
- Assists in obtaining employment in the private sector and enforces the Employment Act of 1955.
- Receives and deals with complaints regarding employment
Registration process for obtaining employment for persons with disabilities
Step 1 - Registration
Registration of persons with disabilities can be made in 2 ways:
1) Completing Form ‘P’ that can be obtained from the Department Of Labour, Social Welfare Department, PERKESO, Disability Organizations/Associations and the office of village headmen
2) Visiting the Job Search webpage of the Department of Labour: www.mohr.gov.my
Information required for registration:
- Name and Address of the person with disabilities or contact details of next of kin /second party
- Person With Disabilities Registration Number (No. Pendaftaran Orang Kurang Upaya) and certification of health status/disability
- Background information on education / skills / work experience and other supporting information
* The candidate can obtain the book ‘Code of Practice for the Employment of Persons With Disabilities in the Private Sector’ (Kod Amalan Pengajian Orang Kurang Upaya di Sektor Swasta) from any State/ District Labour Office (Pejabat Tenaga Kerja Negeri / Daerah).
Step 2 : Proof of Registration
Candidates will be given proof of registration for safe-keeping and future reference, valid for 6 months.
Step 3 : Call for Interview
The Department of Labour will assist in finding employers in need of staff. The candidate will then receive a call for an interview. The interview will be conducted at either the Labour Office nearest to their home, or at the office of the prospective employer.
Step 4 : Attending the Interview
The candidate is required to attend the designated interview, bringing along all information and documents, including supporting documents.
Step 5 : Confirmation
The employer will make a job offer to the successful candidate and the candidate will accept the job offer. The candidate that is successful in obtaining employment is required to notify the Department of Labour so that their employment status can be updated.
- Candidates that are successful in obtaining employment by their own efforts are requested to inform the Department of Labour so that their records can be updated.
Candidates that are unsuccessful are required to inform the Department of Labour so that their names can be re-submitted into the list of people seeking employment.
