DescriptionThe National Council for the Blind, Malaysia (NCBM in short) is a non-governmental, non-profit and tax-exempt organisation, registered under the Societies' Act of Malaysia, which officially came into being on 14th February 1986. There are five major voluntary organizations serving the blind that fall under the National Council: The Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB, based in Kuala Lumpur), St Nicholas Home (based in Penang), The Sabah Society for the Blind (based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah), The Sarawak Society for the Blind (based in Kuching, Sarawak) and The Society of the Blind in Malaysia (SBM, based in Kuala Lumpur). DescriptionOn the 24th, September 2000, at the Selayang Hospital, a group of concerned parents, some medical professionals and some individuals, numbering about 76 people, with representations from 7 states met, leading to the formation of a Pro tern Committee of the Association. An immediate objective of the Pro tern Committee was to get the Association officially registered and this was successfully accomplished on the 11th , May 2001. PSDM is a non profit organization looking into the welfare of persons with DS, their parents, guardians and their immediate families.
